Southwest Florida well represented at Miss Florida USA

The Miss Florida USA pageant is this weekend and there are a few local reasons to watch.

Brittany Freeman, 21, is one of the 52 contestants competing for the state title. She represents Miami Gardens because she has been working as a Miami Dolphins cheerleader and an ice dancer for the Florida Panthers.
Her parents, Robert and Belinda Freeman live in south Fort Myers and so did Brittany for a few years. As a competitive figure skater, she was also a regular at Germain Arena in Estero.
Other local contestants include:
• Kathleen Patton, representing Fort Myers, who is currently studying elementary education at Edison College.

• Samantha Misener, the former Miss Naples Teen is representing Southwest Florida.
• Anastasia Pavlenko, representing Charlotte County.
• Melissa Utvich, representing Naples.

The competition will air live at 7 p.m. Saturday on WXCW Channel 46.
The Miss Florida USA Pageant is the official qualifier for Miss USA. Each delegate has to qualify at a local preliminary pageant and either win her way to state or qualify as a local finalist, or win a Miss Photogenic or Miss Amity award. Qualifiers can have the option of competing at the state level if they pay the registration fee. The competition includes an interview, evening gown and swimsuit. There is no talent competition.

Open to all women in Florida ages 18 -26, contestants must never have been married or had a marriage annulled, never given birth to a child and must be born a female.
